MOVEMENT: From Then to Now
As far back as I can remember, movement was my surfboard on the wave of the world. It allowed for immense creativity and expression of a plethora of thoughts and feelings. It helped to soothe and smooth the emotional edges of life’s tides, transforming chaos into balance, returning harmony to the mind, body, and spirit.
My youth was consumed with competitive sports, mostly gymnastics and dance, morphing into the coaching of both through my 30s and 40s - a three decade exploration of body awareness, bio-mechanics, alignment, and injury prevention. I cannot remember a time when intentional movement was not a significant part of my life, especially now, as a yoga teacher and therapeutic movement educator.
I love the relationship between body and mind! Once that interconnectedness is acknowledged, the trust of Self strengthens, and life becomes much easier to navigate.
Through movement I’ve learned that the body and mind are inseparable. Like Yin and Yang. More recently, I’ve come to understand that when the two are mindfully engaged, the Spirit is truly joyful. These three things, working in harmony, make the Self whole, and allow us to raise our frequency, more effectively enabling us to be the Light to ourselves and others - something our world is in such need of these days.
The spirit, vibe, energy that contains our true nature, while unseen, is ever present. The dynamic energy that surrounds us and moves within us reveals our health and well-being. All we need do is tune in, connect, and feel.
So, life cycles us through connection with the body via movement starting in our youth, then connection to the mind as we learn and grow through life’s ebbs and flows. It also offers a transformative spirit/energy connection if we’re open to it. If we’re wise enough to connect body, mind, and spirit - Oh! what a wonderful wave we can ride.
